4 Free but Effective Ways to Staff Your Business

Written by Ashwin Satyanarayana for Gaebler Ventures

Staffing your company with the right talent isn't as simple as it sounds. Sometimes, you will find recruiting is a humungous task. Here are a few tips on making recruiting easier & sourcing the right talent.

Once a business begins to grow and begins to get wings to fly, entrepreneurs will look to staff their companies and find good talent to help keep the company running profitably.

In spite of a large workforce throughout the world, it is still difficult to source and retain employees. Difficulties arise for reasons such as mismatch of the company's vision with that of the employee, lack of relevant education, experience or competence, and much more. Here are 4 free but effective ways to find employees for your business:

Telecommuting Posts on Online Job Portals: One of the easiest ways of sourcing talent from anywhere in the world is to use the Internet. Head over to any of the global staff sourcing channels and put up a post with clear instructions and explanations on the job descriptions, job roles, etc. Alternatively, you could look at seeking talent on a freelancing basis from sites such as elance, odesk and guru.com where you could literally find talent from all over the world delivering quality work for you at a fraction of the cost. There are other ways like LinkedIn Jobs using which you could leverage your global network of professionals to find talent.

Cold calling Educational Institutions: Although it would cause you beads of sweat and would entail rolling up your sleeves, cold calling and approaching educational institutions -public or private - is one of the most cost effective ways of finding raw talent. Graduates would love to see if your company can give them what they are looking for and you have a large pool of graduates to choose from. The best part is that no one will ever turn you down.

Word-Of-Mouth or Referral Recruiting: Old ways of doing things have always been charming. One of the other common ways of recruiting - although it might not work for mass recruiting - is to spread the word that you are hiring and wait for people to call you up. You then interview them and hire them if you like and see potential. Alternatively, you could just ask your employees to go ahead and refer their friends and acquaintances for something in return (usually cash works best).

Tapping into your Personal/Professional Network: This is one of the best ways of hiring people because you would probably know those you are about to hire in some capacity or the other due to your acquaintance or a relationship in a previous setting. You could also look to hire people from other professional clubs, private clubs and other social network settings. There are people everywhere and all you have to do is to show up to have access to this varied talent waiting to show their collective competence.
