The District of Columbia, Washington DC, is one of 45 states that have enacted minimum wage laws. The minimum wage in District of Columbia is $7.75 greater than the current Federal minimum wage rate of $7.25. That's more than double the Federal minimum wage, and it's higher than any state's minimum wage (Yes, we know DC is not a state per se, but it's still a worthwhile comparison.).
DC's minimim wage has risen considerably in recent years. Going back to July 1, 2014, the Washington DC minimum wage was only $8.25.
