Everywhere you look, the lawn care and landscape industry is booming. According to some estimates, 8 out of 10 consumers invest in lawn and/or garden care each year. With such widespread demand, it’s no wonder that more and more entrepreneurs are entering the lawn care and landscaping franchise industry every year.

There are many different kinds of lawn care and landscaping businesses. Some businesses offer customers general landscaping services. Others, aware of the time constraints on homeowners, specialize in providing weekly lawn mowing and maintenance. However, by far the most common type of lawn care franchises are those that specialize in the application of herbicides, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers.

With almost forty years of experience, Lawn Doctor is the recognized leader in the lawn care franchising industry. Through their patented TurfTamer application system, Lawn Doctor offers its customers time-tested and proven methods to achieve a picture-perfect lawn. Like most lawn care franchisors, Lawn Doctor recognizes that its franchisees will need to be brought up to speed on current technology and proper lawn care techniques. To help them, Lawn Doctor offers a comprehensive training program and ongoing franchisee support in everything from marketing and sales to agronomy and horticulture.

As with any industry, the decision to become a lawn care franchise owner should not be taken lightly. By purchasing a franchise, you are investing in a business plan that will have a significant impact on your professional – and personal – life for years to come. Research as many franchise opportunities as possible to learn the facts about the industry before making a commitment.

Points to Consider

  • In many regions, the lawn care business is seasonal, meaning that you can expect your business to drop off for at least part of the year. Many business owners enjoy the seasonal cycle of lawn care franchise industry, although some find it difficult to work in a business with a non-uniform income stream. Either way, make sure you are aware of the seasonal ramifications of lawn care in your geographic area.
  • Since many lawn care franchises deal with chemicals on a regular basis, you need to be prepared to address the challenges posed in storing and disposing of hazardous materials. Be sure to talk to your franchisor about how its stores’ treatment of chemical products.
