Twitter Applications

Written by Anna Lempereur for Gaebler Ventures

Want to be productive with your business with Twitter while working at the same time? Twitter Applications allow you to navigate and update your Twitter without opening your web browser. These applications contain features that will make your experience on Twitter more exciting by connecting you to various media.

Twhirl

Twhirl is a social software desktop client that will allow you to access Twitter the same way you would with any other program.
(article continues below)

It runs off of Adobe AIR, a platform that is used to run Internet applications outside the web browser. Twhirl will connect you to multiple Twitter, laconi.ca, Friendfeed and Seesmic accounts.

Not only does twhirl make it easier to access your Twitter, but it allows you to navigate with convenience. With Ping.fm, you can cross-post your updates to multiple social accounts like MySpace, Facebook, and LinkedIn, so you won’t have to update each one individually. You can search tweets using Twitter Search and TweetScan, and find tweets that mention your username.

Twitterrific

This application is for Mac users who want to experience Twitter right on their desktops. You have the option to view as much information as you’d like, or a small amount of information that would take up as little space possible. The application auto refreshes at intervals which you can customize on your own, so you can keep up to date without clicking a button. The number of unread tweets is shown in the Dock which will ensure that you will be able to keep up with your replies.

You have the option to auto show and hide when new tweets arrive, so you can have the application running while you are working without any disturbances. There are keyboard shortcuts that will allow you to navigate smoothly. You can also choose to have audio notifications for new tweet, so you can be alerted without having to look at your computer screen.

TweetDeck

For those who like to stay organized while being up to date with everything at once, this is the perfect application for you. You can group your followers into categories such as work, friends, family, news, celebrities, or anything else you could possibly think of. Updates from each category will appear on the screen at once, while divided so you can easily identify where your friends are located.

TweetDeck also allows you to access Twitscoop, so you can stay updated with the latest trends in the network. You can also manage multiple Twitter accounts at once, so you can cross-post tweets and avoid switching back and forth. Watching and recording videos is a cinch on TweetDeck – you can watch video clips from 12seconds and Qik, and record videos with 12seconds without having to leave the application.
