Starting a Charismatic Church

Opening a Charismatic church is a rewarding experience but it's important to plan out the startup process in detail before you start. We provide tips and advice to give you a jump-start on planning for your church.

We provide a few relevant suggestions on opening a Charismatic church.

What Is a Charismatic Church?

Things are never dull at a Charismatic church.

A big part of the faith involves as "receiving" or "being filled with" the Holy Spirit. Many, if not most, Charismatics believe that speaking in tongues is a manifestation of being filled with the Spirit. Accordingly, the atmosphere within a Charismatic church is electric. It is in many ways similar to what you will find in other Pentecostal evangelist churches but there is greater emphasis on miracles, prophecy, speaking in tongues, and other spiritual gifts.

There are those who define Charismatic churches to be synonymous with a non-Pentecostal church that emphasizes Charismatic experiences. Others suggest that many Pentecostals are also Charismatics. While the definitions are a bit ambiguous, the estimates are that there are over 500 million Pentecostals and Charismatic Christians. Catholic Charismatics, which number 120 million by some estimates, consider themselves to be part of traditional Roman Catholicism. On the Protestant side of the fence, it is estimated that one out of every four Protestant churches in the United States is a charismatic congregation. The key takeaway for an aspiring religious entrepreneur is that a Charismatic church is a popular concept and that many Charismatic churches are remarkably successful. In other words, this is a proven concept and there is no reason that you should not be able to start your own Charismatic congregation.
