The Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual banquet on May 27 to honor the nominees and present the Small Business of the Year Award. In addition, the paper reports, the Spirit of Pittsburg, City of Pittsburg Employer of the Year and Business Education Alliance Awards will be presented.

Blake Benson, president of the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, spoke to the paper about the criteria for the award, saying "it's not just about company growth, although that is something the committee does look at." The real goal, he said, is to find "a well-rounded business that has not only grown financially, but has also made an impact on the community." Involvement with local organizations and treatment of employees also play a role, he said.

Small businesses and entrepreneurs were also recently honored by the Chamber of Commerce in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The county's Daily Times reported that Bill Shiley of the company Award Connection was the pick for Small Business Person of the Year and the sound equipment company Clear Sound was chosen as Small Business of the Year.
