SMB Social Media Courses Show How Technology Can Increase Profits

Using social media can help small businesses reach new customers, increase sales and effectively brand their company. The first step to using social media successfully is understanding how it works and what techniques will best suit the company's product or service.

American Express OPEN Forum has joined up with New York TechStars startup Veri to launch Crash Courses for small businesses. These online sessions will help small business owners learn how to incorporate online marketing and social media into fundamental business functions in an interactive way.

SMB Social Media Courses

The online educational courses will enable users to learn just the basics of teach topic, or dive deeper into specific subject matter that they wish to explore. Users can peruse through the material and collect IQ points to see what they have achieved compared to other small business owners going through the coursework.

Entrepreneurs can take eight courses online, each focusing on a different skill set that can be used to improve their businesses. Five of the eight courses have been designed to educate owners on the value of online and social marketing websites, such as Facebook for your Business and YouTube Marketing. There will also be courses that address topics such as how to be a better leader and how to find the best employees.

FedEx is also working to help small businesses use social media to its full potential. The company recently announced it will host a three-part Tweet Chat series that will feature industry leaders discussing the latest trends and issues associated with the small business marketplace. Over three weeks, different small business experts will address topics such as making a business recession-proof, increasing advertising's return on investment and branding on a tight budget.
