New free online guide helps small businesses navigate social media.

Constant Contact has introduced a free online guide to help small business owners use social media to grow their enterprises.

Social Media Advice

Announcing the new tool last week, Mark Schulman, general manager of social media at Constant Contact, said the flexibility of the program would be especially welcome news for small business owners. He said entrepreneurs can access more than 70 chapters on various topics related to small business social media use, either following a step-by-step program or selectively gleaning needed information from pertinent chapters. After registering for the program, users can also download and print the material.

In addition to tutorials about how to get started on such popular social media websites as Facebook and LinkeIn, the program provides case studies and best practice tips.

A survey Constant Contact recently conducted with research firm Chadwick Martin Bailey showed a perceived lack of resources, uncertainty about how to begin and insecurity about how to use social media are keeping small business owners from using this type of technology.

Roost and VerticalResponse are among other companies to recently launch tools to help small businesses effectively leverage the power of social media sites.
