A $3.5 billion program from Intel aims to boost IT hiring in the U.S.

Intel CEO Paul Otellini recently announced $3.5 billion initiative called the Invest in America Alliance aimed at creating jobs for recent college graduates in segments of the economy likely to result in large-scale growth in coming years.

Otellini made the announcement during his Rebuilding the Foundations of American Growth speech at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. Several companies announced investments as part of the alliance.

Boosting American influence in the world's technology market is another of the campaign's goals. However, Otellini believes that providing jobs to young people with demonstrated abilities in the math and science is the most important element.

"It would be a long-term mistake to let our future scientists and engineers sit idle after graduation," Otellini said. "Today's announcements are both an investment in the country's innovators and a signal to the global marketplace about America's commitment to innovation and future competitiveness."

Technology news for entrepreneurs has been positive of late. Earlier in the year, President Barack Obama announced a national education plan to improve the teaching of math and science within the United States.
