Magic Johnson offers small business owners key tips about teamwork.
Magic Johnson is not a name that typically pops up in small business news. The former Los Angeles Lakers point guard, however, is more than just an MVP in the sports world - he's a savvy businessman.
After retiring from professional basketball in 1996, Johnson began focusing on Magic Johnson Enterprises, which manages a portfolio of funds that support revitalization projects in underserved communities, as well as his more than 70 Starbucks franchises, Inc. magazine writes.
Johnson, the source notes, prizes teamwork in his business operations and recommends that owners find and train a group of people who have the same business values and commitment that an owner does.
"No one can do every deal alone. I make sure that I have people who want to win, who are about winning, who are competitors and that understand the brand and how to grow the brand," Johnson told the source.
Part of this means sitting down with employees to define goals together that everyone can work toward and feels like they had a role in shaping.
