A mail parcel sterilization technology won a $22,000 prize courtesy of the Coastal Bend Business Plan competition.

Many competitions are making headlines in small business news. For example, the winner of the Coastal Bend Business Plan competition was announced last week at the Del Mar College Small Business Development Center’s awards luncheon, the Corpus Christi Caller Times reports.

Small Business Wins Prize for Cold Plasma Shipping

Glasram Technologies took home a prize of $22,000 as a result of their product that uses cold plasma technology to sterilize 99 percent of the possible bacteria contained in mail and shipping parcels.

"This success will make it possible to bring innovative research to life and form a real company ultimately aimed at serving the public," Dr. Magesh Thiyagarajan, Glasram's founder and chief technology adviser, tells the news source. "We have gained tremendous knowledge and experience through this competition process and are very thankful to the organizers for their great support."

Thiyagarajan added that the experience has given his team financial training they probably would never have received as just scientists with ideas.

According to its website, the Coastal Bend competition was designed to support the best and the brightest entrepreneurial minds in the Texas Coastal Bend region, with a prize package to build their companies locally, along with expertise designed to jumpstart their firms' concepts.
