Thinking about opening a Covenant church? We tell you what you need to know to get started.

Snapshot of Evangelical Covenant Churches

The Evangelical Covenant (or Covenant) Church represents more than 800 individual congregations in North America. Founded in the 19th century by Swedish immigrants, the Covenant church defines itself as evangelical, biblical, traditional and congregational.

The Evangelical Covent Church is fully committed to church planting. In 2010, the denomination started a new church every three weeks (on average). But unlike other some other denominations, the Covenant Church takes a systematic approach to church planting, methodically equipping church planters with the resources and understandings they need to launch healthy and growing congregations.

As a prospective Covenant church planter, the first step is to get in touch with a regional director of church planting. The regional director will discuss your goals and help you navigate the rest of the process.

Advertising Your New Evangelical Covenant Church

Most church plants struggle to achieve visibility beyond their initial core of supporters. The longer your church exists, the more recognizable it will be to the general public. But as a Covenant church startup, you need to capture the public's attention as quickly as possible -- and one of the ways to do that is through religious advertising.

Knowing where to advertise a religious startup can significantly decrease the amount of time it takes for your Covenant church plant to achieve critical mass. It's becoming increasingly common for Covenant church planters to employ a variety of marketing strategies to reach the unchurched. Print, broadcast and online advertising vehicles are all valid ways to capture the attention of the spiritual marketplace. Pay-per-click and pay-per-view ads on social networking sites can be particularly cost-effective way to announce your church's presence to targeted local audiences.
