Don't get too excited . . . You probably won't be capable of creating Felliniesque cinema right out of the gate. But you will gain the ability to complete start-to-finish professional video projects for your website, marketing materials, staff training and online prospecting channels.

The Internet is crowded with business video software contenders. A cursory Google search turns up a long list of software providers that promise professional results for little or no upfront investment. We recommend trying out any video editing solution before you make a purchase. CyberLink PowerDirector 8

CyberLink PowerDirector is a very popular video editing software solution for small businesses. It combines the benefit of a convenient user interface with a full range of features that are often reserved for more complex editing applications. CyberLink PowerDirector is well-established in the industry and has a strong history of updates. Cost: around $100.

Magix Movie Edit Pro

Although some have considered Magix Movie Edit Pro to be a less than optimal editing solution, the latest release has brought improvements in both usability and features. Users now have more control over transitions, effects and audio than ever before, making Magix a serious contender for your buying dollar. Cost: around $80.

Adobe Premiere Elements

Adobe had already established itself as a leader in photo editing with its PhotoShop solution when it started making inroads with its Adobe Premiere video editing line of products. Adobe Premiere Elements is a user-friendly version of Premiere Pro, Adobe's professional video editing product suite. Cost: around $40 ($100 for Adobe Premiere Elements + Photoshop Elements package).

Corel Ulead VideoStudio Pro X

Corel Ulead VideoStudio offers an easy-to-use wizard for novice editors as well as features that are designed for users with advanced skills. The current release resolves many of the issues found in previous versions, making it an attractive option. Cost: around $80.

Pinnacle Studio

Available in multiple versions, Pinnacle Studio Plus and Ultimate have a reputation for being easy to use. They also have a range of features that make these versions useful for business editing. Cost: around $85.
